Bog Bean (Menyanthes trifoliata) represents rebirth and awakening. She is intimate with, but not constrained by, suffering. She has learned that she can take in nutrients from the mud, little by little, and use them to grow.
Like most water plants, Bog Bean is exceptional at water filtration and there in lies the key to her healing essence. Just as she brings the green waters of ponds back to life in the spring, she helps us to see more clearly. She filters out any unnecessary mental, emotional, or physical clutter.
In the same way that Bog Bean emerges from the water, we too, can emerge from our suffering.

This painting represents Bog Bean along with her spirit twin, the Dragonfly.
During the summer months here in Ireland, iridescent dragonflies and damselflies can be seen hovering above her waters. Bog Bean offers a home for these magical beings to perch and lay their eggs.
Finally, the nymphs use the shimmery green stems to climb up out of the water ready for their metamorphosis into adults.
